Marine Layer, Grand Vent Vineyard Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2022

The Grand Vent (aka "Big Wind") vineyard is aptly named: located at the edge of the Sonoma coastal mountain range where the Petaluma Gap begins, this site is exceptional windy. The cool, foggy nights and mornings are balanced by the drying wind which results in pristine, just-ripe fruit that is full of spice and savory complexity. Fermented in a 5 ton, open-top tank, the wine is then transferred to French oak (20% new) for spontaneous malolactic fermentation and 14 months of aging. After a 1-2 hour decant the Grand Vent is loaded with wild cherries, red plums, lavender, thyme, orange zest, and hints of white pepper. It will age gracefully for a decade or more.
