Barbeito, 'Thomas Jefferson Special Reserve' Madeira Rare Wine Company Historic Series NV

In the 18th and 19th centuries, Madeira was the United States' most prestigious wine. The Historic Madeira Series is a collaboration between The Rare Wine Co and Vinhos Barbeito, and it showcases several styles of Madeira that were popular in early American cities.

Thomas Jefferson Special Reserve celebrates Jefferson's ideal style of Madeira, as he once wrote: "dry wine dashed with a little sweetness, barely sensible to the palate: the silky Madeira which we sometimes get here, is made so by putting a small portion of Malmsey into the dry madeira". In this special bottling under the Historic Series, a small amount of Malvasia was blended into a fine dry Madeira, resulting in a beautifully refined wine with just a hint of sweetness.
